Wort Cooler


Wort is the hot malt liquor. Before the yeast can be pitched (added to the Wort) it must be cooled down to around 30°C other wise the yeast will be killed.

Cooling of the wort causes precipitation of undesirable substances. The substances that precipitate during this process are called cold trub. The particle size of cold trub is 0.5 -1.0 µm. Cold trub consists mainly of proteins with a concentration of 15 - 30 grams per hectolitre. This cold trub would precipitate in the pre-fermentation or fermentation tanks and has to be eliminated by filtration or centrifugation.

Conductivity Sensors for Wort Cooler



Goal of Measurement:
Oxygen uptake in the lauter tun will have an adverse effect on the stability of the beer (flavour, color, clarity, reduced shelf life). Online dissolved oxygen monitoring will help to avoid Hot Side Aeration. Accurate monitoring of trace levels of dissolved oxygen in beer is possible. Sensors inside the lauter tun need to have a robust membrane to withstand many clean-in-place (CIP) cycles.
